Sony K.C. is a gender, social inclusion, and community development expert with over 12 years of experience in research, program evaluation, and policy advocacy. Her work focuses on advancing equity and inclusion for marginalized groups, particularly women, youth, and individuals with disabilities, through evidence-based approaches and participatory methods.

Sony has contributed to a range of projects, including developing gender, equity, and social inclusion indicators for the Nepal Lentil Sector Transformation Project with Michigan State University. As a consultant with organizations like Helvetas and the Social Welfare Council, she has evaluated programs on child rights, anti-human trafficking, and mental health integration. Her academic work includes a PhD in Development Studies, where she explored the intersection of agricultural transitions and women’s livelihoods in Nepal.

A skilled facilitator and researcher, Sony has applied innovative approaches such as photovoice to highlight the barriers and enablers of social inclusion for women with disabilities, sharing her findings at national and international platforms. Fluent in Nepali and English, she combines technical expertise with a strong commitment to social justice, focusing on practical, inclusive solutions that address the complexities of development in diverse settings.

EDUCATION

PhD in Development Studies (University of Bern and Kathmandu University) with a thesis on agricultural transition and gender; dual Master’s in Human and Natural Resource Management (Kathmandu University) and English Literature.
